Home

A friend of mine from out of town was visiting with his family a few years back. When they pulled up to our house they saw my vehicle with the RazerLift on the roof. He mentioned to his kids that I had invented the RazerLift. Their response was, “but, I thought he was an author.”

The truth of the matter is that I have a variety of interests that don’t intuitively overlap. Sometimes I describe myself as a man who hasn’t decided what he wants to be when he grows up.

After all, I’m just in my 40’s; no rush.

I write stuff

Obviously, I blog. That comes and goes, depending on my stress level in life.

I also write books. My first book – Arguing with Friends (http://www.arguingwithfriends.ca) – is about engaging in the most serious conversations in life as a means to deepen friendships, not jeopardize them.

For the Love of Alberta (http://www.fortheloveofalberta.ca) is a very brief, but hopefully well reasoned and researched, explanation of why it is that right-leaning fiscal and social policy is demonstrably best for civilization. It was written in the wake of the Alberta New Democratic Party provincial election victory in 2015.

My most ambitious projects was Suffering: the heart of the matter. This book explores themes of suffering, God and the meaning of life as I reflected on those issues when my wife was in the hospital recovering from a cardiac arrest. She nearly didn’t make it, so I had lots of time to think about those things, as well as – shall we say – a pressing interest in the subject. The book is a collection of blog posts I wrote as well as a short story and all the Facebook updates I posted from the day she arrived at the hospital via ambulance to the day she walked out under her own power.

I recently released my latest work, Christian Theology <- in reverse. I’ve grown increasingly curious why more Christians aren’t spending more of their time contemplating the afterlife. What our Faith tells us about what awaits the faithful seems (to me) to be profoundly inspiring, and it infuses this life with incalculable meaning and purpose. Why talk of the afterlife is pushed to the end of most introductions to the Faith doesn’t make sense to me, so I put it at the beginning.

I’m working on a book tentatively titled, “Marriage and sex: it’s not about me.”

I invent

RazerLift
RazerLift

My first major invention was the RazerLift (www.RazerLift.com). Accessing vehicle roof-top cargo is not only a significant inconvenience, it is a major ergonomic safety risk. The RazerLift is a powered system that provides easy access to vehicle roof-top cargo, essentially eliminating the risk altogether. I grew that company as far as my skillsets and energy would allow, then I stepped aside late 2021 to allow others to take it to the next level.

HingeGym

My second invention is will be up on Amazon shortly. The HingeGym brings out the best in resistance band training by providing a secure, flexible and quite inexpensive, anchor system in your house.

I enjoy great conversation about life’s really important issues. But if you go that route you should probably read a little more about me before sparking up a conversation.

Can I ask a small favour? No, not money. Please share this article with others.
