You may have heard the story of the 30-year-old man posing as a 17-year-old high school student and playing basketball on their team. Jonathon Nicola was arrested.
The “trans” community immediately leaped to his defense, protesting that he should not be discriminated against simply because he is transgenerian.
You may not have heard of the term “transgenarian” but the concept is quite simple. Some people self-identify as having a birth year that differs from the birth year assigned to them at birth. This is by no means the first such case. Stefonknee Wolscht was a 52 year old husband and father from Ontario before he realized he was actually a six-year-old girl. He was both trans-gender, and trans-genarian; his self-identified gender didn’t match his assigned sex, and his self-identified age didn’t match his assigned birth year.
In the case of Jonathon Nicola, his self-identified gender and assigned sex do match, but his self-identified age and his assigned birth year do not match. He is transgenarian.
Hence the public outcry at his arrest; how could the border officials be so insensitive? This is 2016, after all. We need to be accepting of all people’s self-identification.
No, I am not serious. Nobody came to his defense. Transgenarianism is not considered a legitimate form of “trans” yet, hence the silence.
But, it will be; give it time.
